Mort Einstein, Donor

Mort and his wife were very much in love...

They often joked about growing old together.  At around 4 PM on Tuesday, July 5, 2011, Mort went out to his car, opened the front door, bent over and collapsed.  No one found him for almost forty-five minutes.  Six days later, his wife had to make the heartbreaking decision to take him off the ventilator.  She donated Mort’s corneas, giving sight to two people, and helping her deal with her grief.

Please, don’t take your organs to heaven; heaven knows we need them here.

It’s so very hard for me,

To believe that you are gone;

Our love will live forever,

Even after you’ve moved on.

I know I’ll feel your spirit,

In whatever I may do;

You showed me I was special,

Offered love so pure and true.

I’ll cherish every moment,

That we shared throughout the years,

Hold your love within my heart,

And repress my grief and tears.

Life wasn’t always easy;

There were times when we got mad;

But strong commitments bound us,

Through the good times and the bad/

Thought we’d grow old together;

Guess it wasn’t meant to be.

Our passion, love and friendship

To the world, were clear to see.

I’ll somehow go on living,

Keep my head up high and smile;

I’ll care for Snick and Lambie,

For I’ll see you in awhile.

For me, it was a pleasure,

Being your devoted wife;

So let us join together,

Celebrate our love and life.

I never will forget you,

Through the years we’ll be apart,

Your love will make me stronger,

It will be deep in my heart.
