To know her was to witness what it meant to truly love...
“Happiness is the soundtrack of my life,” a line from a song and undeniably fitting for our Celeste. To know Celeste was to witness a genuine soul that understood what it meant to truly love family, friends, life, music, dancing and singing. Four weeks after turning 20 years old, our beloved Celeste succumbed to injuries sustained in a car accident. Just four weeks prior, she had registered to become an organ donor.
Celeste believed in the good of people, in generosity, in motivating others and in listening with a gentle and non-judgmental spirit. She freely shared her infectious smile and positive attitude and gave the best of herself always. She had a genuine interest in what you had to say and in the person you were. Those who met her walked away with something special, be it a deeper appreciation for life, hope about your future or a renewed sense of motivation in your potential. She was mature beyond her years, ambitious, humble, articulate, interested in fashion, sensitive, loyal, able to make friends easily and had a zest for life.
Our family has been touched by organ donation, both in giving and receiving. Years prior, Celeste’s grandfather was a kidney recipient from a young man close to her age and our family has not forgotten his generous gift. We are reminded how life comes full circle because both of Celeste’s kidneys (among other organs) were successfully donated. Celeste’s personal choice to be a Giver of Life couldn’t make us more proud. We believe her choice is a reflection of how important it is to give just as quickly as you are to receive. We know that Celeste would be humbled by and grateful to those who are inspired by her choice to be an organ donor or to those who choose to be ‘givers’ in other ways.
