Ilai “Sunny” Petersen (pronounced Eli) was a very happy and smart kid. He touched so many lives with his smile and kind heart. He loved surfing, swimming, fishing, being outdoors and playing with friends. He was a gentle and loving soul. He loved Jesus. He loved his family and would always tell them, “I love you more.” He loved eating sushi and Cholula sauce on pretty much everything. Ilai dreamed to live in Kauai, be a surfer, farmer, blacksmith and millionaire. Ilai loved blue and yellow – colors of Ukrainian flag. He loved Ukraine and Ukrainian people and wished he could do more for them. He was kind and funny! He was a great friend to many! His zest for life was unmatched. In his short 9 years of life he impacted hundreds of people! Losing him has left a deep hole in all of our hearts but ripples from the life he led will continue. Meet us at the gate, Ilai!
