He was an inspiration in life and in death...

Larry lived his life for the service of others. Right after high school he joined the Army. After that went straight into law enforcement, where he excelled to the rank of commander. Even in his untimely death he gave everything he could. His heart, liver and kidneys went to three different individuals. He passed away in December 2018, four days after his 51st birthday. I can’t help but think what a beautiful Christmas present he gave to the recipients and their loved ones. He is a husband, father, grandfather, son, uncle and brother. He was an inspiration in life and in death.

I first met Larry when he was a toddler many years ago. I met him again in 2012 surrounded by his family. His mother is my High School friend. I know that people depended on Larry. I know as a police officer he believed good should prevail over evil. He fought for what was right and he truly cared about the welfare of others. He gained the confidence of his department and was promoted to Police Commander, one of the highest ranks in the police department. You must have superior leadership skills to manage this job and you must be professional, polite, kind and caring. Larry was all of these things – you can see it even in brief encounters with him and his family. There is a special place in heaven for Larry and I was happy to have known him even for a brief period of time.

I had the honor of working with Larry since 1992 when he joined our family here at Glendale PD. I was able to share in his journey as he rose the ranks. In 2014 Larry was promoted to Commander and he was stationed at the Foothills Substation. I was Commander Castrovinci's Administrative Assistant and he was simply the best - there are not enough words to describe just what an incredible human being he was. If I could use one word to define Larry it would be kind. Larry was a great leader, boss, friend, confidant, but most of all he was one of most compassionate people I have ever known in all my life. Family was everything to Larry and my heart aches for those he left behind. Larry is deeply missed by his family in blue. Larry was a man of honor and integrity who lived his life as a servant, he served both his Country and Community with the highest of level of professionalism. Even in death Larry was saving lives. I miss you my sweet friend!! May you soar with the angels and watch over all of us. You will never be forgotten!!

Never had the pleasure of meeting Larry but I've known his mom since we were little kids in parochial school. A fine man who was obviously dedicated to his community, his loss will no doubt be felt by all. especially his family and close friends. R.I.P. sir!

I've known Larry since 1985. He was always a respectful young man, we have his parents to thank for that. America is missing a great man. Thankfully three families lives saved. God Bless you Larry. You can rest in peace. Jean Svrcek
