It was no surprise that he chose to be a donor to others...

My dad laid out everything he had to help his family, always. So it was no surprise that he chose to be a donor to others when he passed.

The last ‘fatherly deed’ he managed to accomplish was not allowing me, his oldest daughter, to watch him take his last breath. I was practically living in the hospice room after his stroke left him in a coma.
Days upon days while I watched him, after being taken of life support, for any signs of pain and to simply hold on to him for every last second we had left together. On what would be his final day alive, our family tried convincing me to get out of that room and have a break lasting longer than a few minutes. I refused. I knew he would let go.
And I was right. It took just a couple hours.

Finding out that he was registered to be a donor was the last thing we found out. We all supported this immediately and knew there was no reason not to honor his wishes and help people in need.
Thank you to the Donor Network of Arizona for being sympathetic and gentle at such a sensitive time.

    Oh my uncle steve. I can't believe you pasted away. Seeing you was one of the hardest things I've experienced. You and my dad raised me on hunting and fishing, you guys teaching me how to drive the Toyota. I admired you both so much, getting to go dove hunting and fretching birds for these men and being able to around them was the best part of my childhood. Oh how I loved to spend my dad's watching them and doing what they do. If i could have another day with them if choose that. To be out hunting getting to spend that time I truely miss with them. Uncle Steve was the most selfless man, as was my dad as well! They loved with no limits and cared for miles, for everyone. I can only hope that we have them inside us and show all of these things to our children. I love and miss you uncle steve! Love Devon

    This does not surprise me about your dad!! Thank you for sharing it! Today he showed up on one of my memories... as he has so many days! I recently bought a new home and a small town a few miles away is called Mortons Gap... I thought he'd get a kick out of that! We have been friends for several years.. we had lost touch for a few years, but reconnected a couple of years ago.. we had never actually met face to face... but we shared so many ideas.. I admired him for the way he loved his children! his work ethic.. that he went for it..to become a chef! We shared the LOVE of family and food! And our sence of humor! We made each other laugh! I loved his "language" Haha! He had told me You said he needed to write a book or dictionary.. translating his language! I am sincerely sorry for your loss... there are no words.. I lost both my mom and dad in 2014, 6 months apart.. just hold tight to your memories, and how much he dearly loved you!! I was so stunned to read your post .. I had been so busy moving and settling in... We had a date .. an open one .. he was going to cook me any dinner of my choice as soon as I beat my cancer!! I was diagnosed a year ago December... he was so encouraging and helping me with knowledge of foods that help.. his boss' wife had used foods.. so he was always reaching out to help others including me... He left a legacy to be proud ... I will keep you all in my prayers.. he made a difference in my life and I sure miss him!!!

      Thank you so sooooo much for sharing that with me. I'm still living in amazement of how loved this man was. I always knew, of course, but everyone has stories that are coming out. I hope he knows he should be proud. Because he definitely felt beaten down that last year or so. It was hard to see him so stressed out. He had been living with me for a few months. When you beat the cancer I hope a brillant recipe appears in your mind for you to create.

        Hi Jen! I apologize for the delay in responding.. I hadn't been feeling so great.. and in November we found out why.. just before Thanksgiving I was told my cancer has Metastisised and now terminal..6 months or less... I entered Hospice, and have sold my home and now spending the time with my children and grandchildren.. living life to the fullest until I no longer can.. but I'm sure that recipe would have been there! Now I'll get that opportunity to meet him sooner than I thought.. life is full of suprises.. but your post on this.. I will now be donor in his name! Thank you!
